September 2016 Newsletter

September Sermon Series

Starting September 11th, we will be working through a four-week series entitled “Using God’s Gifts for His Glory.” Pastor Charles will be preaching this sermon series on September 11th (The Problem of Materialism: Your Money, Your Life), September 18th (The Incredible Profit of a Dedicated Life), September 25th (Giving is an Act of Worship), and October 2nd (The Freedom of Obedience).

There is a practical small group curriculum about managing your money God’s way, please contact Pastor Charles or the church office if you would be interested in such a study or group. This small group study would provide practical encouragement and Biblical help for Christians who may be struggling with debt, and who want to learn how to improve their skills in finance management.

A-Frame Update

Progress is being made at the A-frame building! Demolition is complete inside, electrical work is in place, our new church sign has been installed, stain has been applied to the exterior, and sheetrock is being installed. Though there is not a set move-in date yet, we should be in our new location by no later than the end of September.

We are planning a special worship service and block party for the community to come and visit our new location! Advertisements will be put in the East Mountain Shopper and The Independent once an official event date has been set.

 Ministry Spotlight

Feed the Kids: Sheryl Stewart

The day is Tuesday and the young boy asks his teacher if the people are bringing the food bags this week…the food is handed out on Fridays. Young children are worried about when they will eat again. They should not be worried about food; they should be playing and carefree. The weekends and school breaks are scary. At school, they get breakfast and lunch. This is where we come in and serve to help make a difference when they are not at school.
As many as 20 VGC folks and friends come together twice a month to pack non-perishable foods for kids to take home. We’re packing 30 bags per week for two schools in the East Mountains. Church members give in several ways. Some sponsor a child for $20 a month; some shop from our “grocery list;” and some help package.
Our partner, First Baptist Tijeras, provides a place for us to pack together. This is a great partnership and fellowship! While it serves the kids well, the folks who volunteer have great fun together twice a month. In 2 hours, we pack sixty bags for two schools for two weeks while visiting with one another.
A first grader tells the teacher her stomach doesn’t hurt because she’s not hungry! Pray with us that this food can change their lives and break the cycle of food insecurity in our community. It’s an investment in these kids to have a better quality of life than they have now.
Interested? Come and check us out! We’d love to have you.
